The work schedule at 6A is getting settled into a steady, routine pace now, and it's tough to distinguish one day from the next. But I'm feeling my body getting in better shape and my form's looking better in the mirror than it did when I first got here a week ago! We also have a new cast member, Nicole, who has just been hired as the forth alternate player. She's been put right to work, as Marcy hasn't been feeling well lately. No problem, Nicole has snap as well as pipes and does a fine job.
One of the cast members, Julia, is into baking, and brought pie for the company. I damn near missed out on a slice just by going to my locker to get a videotape. Every day around 5:00 is movietime for the cast. Don feels it's important for the players to know as much about John Lennon as possible, and he puts special emphasis on material that appears in the show's script. Fortunately, there's a lot out there, and Don has nearly all of it. Me, I've seen it all, so the kick is watching others discovering it for the first time, reacting, laughing, crying, whatever. Lennon's is one of the most exhilarating and tragic stories ever told, and fortunately for us there are hours upon hours' worth of illustration.
It's been a pretty solid week for me, the longest time I've ever spent in the city, and it's going to get longer. I try to make each day a new adventure of sorts. Tuesday's was a short one - a quick lunchtime jog to the Actors Equity headquarters on 46th St. They have sublet postings up there all the time; maybe I'd get lucky. There was a chorus call going on in the upstairs lobby and the tension was as thick as pudding. Ever see "A Chorus Line?" That about nails it. Girls everywhere looking their dancer best and focused on getting that gig. So many talented people are on this little island and all I can think to myself is "How on Earth Did I Get Here?" My back story is unique to every single person I've spoken to up here. They all have resumes that go on for days, whereas I...I'm just a lucky freak in the right place at the right time with the right credentials (see Fab Fourgeries, music/mp3's). I've worried that his might drive a wedge between me and the others, but no one seems to care. They're all focused on their jobs. Besides, there's a hell of an information exchange going on here. Between their theatre saavy and my grip on the subject, we're all getting the education of a lifetime.
