Today was far and away the most comfortable day of rehearsal I've had since I've been here. It was a far cry from yesterday's dreadful walking-on-eggshells feeling that haunted me relentlessly (most likely an emotional hangover from the previous night's overindulgence). I just felt stable, no overwhelming highs or abysmal lows, just positive and confident throughout. Natural. Hopefully the start of a new trend. I also learned that an old schoolmate of mine is rehearsing Julius Caesar next door. I knew he was acting around town, but certainly didn't expect to run into him here. But the unexpected is commonplace in this town.
Around three in the afternoon snow began flurrying, and was falling heavily by quitting time. I walked several blocks up to meet Esmeralda, a friend of my wife's who was in town for the week. I decided to get her out of the tourist trap of 7th Avenue and down to John's on Bleecker St for some hot NY pizza at its finest. She dug having her first big city adventure, enhanced by the serious snowfall and wind, while I furthered my own education of the underground rails.
Over the Manhattan Bridge the white city below looks legendary at night, and I think the snowfall has let up a bit. Well, very little, actually, but it'll make for a pleasant and quiet walk home.
