Tonight I performed my sixth straight show at the Broadhurst, and my ninth of the past two weeks. Once again, I thought I'd walk into the theatre this evening and see everything returned to normal, but I immediately learned that I would be doing at least three more shows this week.

This is great for me, but it presents a problem. Will isn't feeling well, and had planned to do the show tonight and have me track his moves closely so that I could be prepared to cover him the next day in case his condition didn't improve. But since I'm already busy, this won't happen. If Will is too sick to go on, there are two possible scenarios: a) I will have to do a split track, meaning double up and play both roles, which is unlikely, or b) The matinee will be cancelled and we'll hope for Will to make the evening show, which is most likely. Personally, I'm putting my money on Will. I think he'll come through.

I went into town early today. I got a call from the show's P.R. people to participate in a promotional event. The John Lennon Songwriting Contest, currently in its ninth year, has what they call the Educational Tour Bus. It's literally a mobile studio built into a bus, and it travels around the country providing young potential artists a chance to experience the world of songwriting and recording. A young woman named Amanda had won a contest that got her a night in Manhattan, a ticket to see Lennon, and a session inside the tour bus. I was brought in because I have studio and songwriting experience and could provide a little insight. So I hung out on the bus, helped Amanda get started on a song and played drums on it. All it took was an hour.

I had plenty of time before I had to be back for the show, so I went downtown, had lunch in the East Village with Chris, and found a place to get a quick haircut. The girl who cut my hair just happened to be from Austin and knew several of my friends. That happens so often in this town I can't tell you. But it proves that whether you're from Austin or New York, home is never that far away.

After tonight's gig, which went very well, the cast gathered in the office for a brief meeting with Don and received some unexpected news. It looks like more script changes are on the way. We'll find out what, and why, very soon.
